The Family Health Centers are an award winning group of dedicated family practice physicians, who provide excellent primary healthcare services to seniors and adults as well as children and babies. Since 1978, our convenient locations in downtown Asheville, Arden and Hominy Valley have made it easy for residents for Western North Carolina to establish care with us.
We offer a dedicated medical staff of 19 physicians, and two mid-level providers, (one physician assistant and one family nurse practitioner), who provide a continuum of care in our offices and hospital.
Unlike physicians who specialize in treating one particular organ or disease, your family physician is uniquely trained to care for you as a whole person, regardless of your age or sex. In addition to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, your family physician provides routine health screenings and counseling on lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent illnesses before they develop. And, if a health condition arises that requires care from another specialist, your family physician is there to guide you and to coordinate all aspects of your care. You and your family physician will work together to achieve the best possible outcome in the most cost-effective manner.

Established patients do not need to speak to a nurse for a same-day sick appointment. Call our main number (828-258-8681) and press 1 for Scheduling. Or, visit our walk-in clinic, at every location, Monday-Friday from 8 am to 11 am for simple acute medical problems. Missed appointments: We understand that our patients will sometimes forget an appointment or miss an appointment due to a schedule conflict. If you miss an appointment, we will attempt to contact you at least three times to reschedule your appointment in a timely manner. The Family Health Centers does not charge our patients for missed appointments. However, out of respect for all of our patients, our patients who miss more than three appointments in a twelve-month period may be subject to dismissal from the practice.
