[Register to View] , a nationally recognized nonprofit life plan community (continuing care retirement community) in Asheville, NC, is seeking full-time Safety and Security Officers. The Safety and Security Officer position has the primary role to provide access control to the Givens Estates campus, respond to campus emergencies, provide traffic control, patrol the campus, investigate safety/security instances and report, conduct safety drills, monitor alarms, secure buildings, ensure visitors sign in, provide light duty maintenance tasks, and provide transportation for residents. This involves ensuring a safe, secure, and comfortable living environment for residents, visitors, and team members. As the Safety and Security Officer, you are delegated responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. You will report to the Assistant Facilities Director- Safety and Security. You will provide support to other departmental directors as requested on an as needed basis. This position has responsibilities at our Welcome Center and performs patrols within the campus.

What you'll do:

At Welcome Center
  • Provide access control. Non-residents/team members will be asked to sign-in and provide identification as necessary.
    • Ensure persons not allowed on campus do not gain entry. Direct person(s) off campus, as needed. Team member(s) or resident(s) who verify by either a name badge or vehicle decal will be waved through
  • If an unauthorized vehicle/individual refuses to exit campus, inform them that Givens Estates is private property and if they do not leave, they will be served with trespass notification and the Asheville Police Department will be notified. If you are not able to speak to them or follow them to their location notify your supervisor. Call Asheville Police Department immediately if the situation is more emergent/threatening
  • Maintain log documentation of visitors
  • Register team member and resident vehicles and issue decals, as needed
  • Maintain information of active BOLO notices, trespass notices, and/or restraining order information for team member/resident concerns
  • Monitor emergency call dashboard for alarms/alerts, and respond accordingly
  • Assist EMS personnel. Provide directions or locate residences, provide other support in emergency situations

On Campus
  • Monitor alarm systems and respond accordingly, including but not limited to: pull cords and pendants, fire alarms, elopement devices, and any other building alarm system
  • Assist EMS personnel and provide directions or locate residences, provide other support in emergency situations
  • Provide traffic control and enforce campus speed limit. Issue citations as necessary
  • Patrol campus, both on foot and vehicle patrols
  • Investigate any safety and security instances and respond accordingly. Provide appropriate documentation of event
  • Conduct safety drills including but not limited to fire alarm training in the licensed areas of campus
  • Monitor emergency call dashboard for alarms/alerts and respond accordingly
  • Provide transportation of residents as directed by the Assistant Facilities Director- Safety and Security
  • Assist residents/guests who have been locked out of the building. ID confirmation will be needed
  • Acts as security for and responds to staff and/or resident related issues. Including, team member terminations when requested by Human Resources
  • Perform (un)lock-up of campus commons buildings including Oxford Commons, Asbury Commons, Creekside Homes, Friendship Park, Green House, and Givens Estates Health Center
  • Check to ensure vacant homes are secured and closely monitored
  • Securing the buildings/campus will take priority over any routine work orders or maintenance that may come up during lock-up times
  • Keep record of tasks performed by completing Daily Activity Report
  • Assist in keeping campus clean by picking up litter/debris in and around buildings
  • Perform other general duties as determined by the Assistant Facilities Director- Safety and Security
  • Assist nursing staff as needed, including locating residents who may be in distress
  • Perform as a First Responder to maintenance emergency calls after normal business hours
  • Check/Change light bulbs in interior Commons Areas. Notify maintenance when unable to change
  • Check campus exterior lighting. Notify maintenance when lights are found to be out
  • Officer must ensure coverage is maintained seven day per week. Officer will perform the duties of the job to ensure coverage is maintained seven days per week. The schedule will be on rotation with other officers
  • Participate, provide input, and support department and campus-wide meetings
  • Actively participate and accept personal responsibility to ensure the success of the Corporate Compliance Program
  • Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor

What you'll need:

  • Ability to handle situations involving conflict or high stress and effectively de-escalate the situation
  • Meet the physical demands of the job
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt with minimal supervision
  • Must have certifications including; CPR and First Aid; or ability to obtain such with 90-days
  • Must complete verbal de-escalation/customer service training in first 30 days of employment
  • Must have excellent public relation skills
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License

This will be a Thursday through Sunday schedule, with Thursday working 1p-7p and Friday through Sunday working 7a-7p.
