Job Title: Packaging Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt Salaried
Reports to: Brewery Operations Director
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Packaging Manager of Highland Brewing Company is responsible for overseeing the staffing, operation, maintenance, and scheduling of the kegging, bottling, and canning operations. The manager is responsible for leading a dynamic team of full-time employees to safely and efficiently package quality beer by streamlining processes and reducing non-value add activities with ongoing attention to employee engagement. The manager must have experience working on packaging equipment, a deep understanding of lean manufacturing and process improvement, an understanding of critical systems of the brewing industry, and a commitment to quality control and assurance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works with the entire brewery team, including operations, brewing, sales, marketing and hospitality to develop a packaging schedule that meets production needs and constraints
- Manages the packaging team, creating staffing schedules and overseeing daily performance
- Maintains SOPs and procedural documents for the packaging equipment, and conducts frequent reviews of practices for efficiency and efficacy
- Maintains inventory of all packaging supplies
- Encourages professional development of packaging staff by assisting with training and continuing education
- Ensures packaging staff performance evaluations are performed at 90 days, for annual review, and on an as needed basis
- Interviews and selects staff to create a dynamic and successful packaging team
- Works with Quality to ensure that product is ready for packaging, and that quality is maintained throughout the packaging process
- Works with Quality to develop quality standards for packaged product
- Work with Quality to identify critical control points within the packaging processes and develop control measures at each point
- Work with Quality on GMP and food safety standards, assists with training and education, and ensures execution amongst staff
- Work with management to develop safety standards and best practices
- Assists other management in conducting lean process and SOP evaluations throughout the brewery and all aspects of production
- Performs other duties as assigned or as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education :
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or brewing related field preferred
Experience :
- Three years of experience in a production facility
- Two years in leadership role
- Beverage packaging experience preferred
- Knowledge of quality procedures, lean manufacturing, and HACCP a plus
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the craft brewing industry and the brewing process
- Ability to motivate and supervise personnel
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and do physically demanding work is required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
- Willingness to work on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery is required.
- Willingness to work in an environment with high noise levels is required.
- Willingness to occasionally work events on evenings and weekends is required.
At-Will Employment : Employment with Highland Brewing Co. may be terminated by either Highland or the employee at any time with or without cause or notice.
