Position Summary: The Benefits and Support Services Coordinator will provide information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and other federal nutrition programs, to potentially eligible individuals and families in MANNA’s 16 county service area, and then provide them with pre-screening and application assistance. The Coordinator will oversee recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers at MANNA and participating community agencies, to participate in outreach activities that increase awareness of and access to federal benefits programs. The Coordinator will oversee all operations of MANNA’s Food Helpline and multi-channel call center, including incoming and outgoing calls, emails, texts, faxes, etc. The coordinator will be responsible for maintaining accurate program data, providing reports on data collected, communicating with local Departments of Social Services and MANNA partner organizations, and staying abreast of current SNAP regulations and information. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Community Outreach team in setting targets and goals concerning new outcomes for state contract and grant opportunities, and MANNA’s strategic plan.
  2. Conduct outreach through telephonic technology for NC residents, and when applicable, at any needed location in the 16-county service area; provide education, pre-screening and direct application assistance to potentially eligible clients.
  3. Oversee and coordinate all Helpline operations.
  4. Assist in recruitment and interviewing of Helpline and FNS volunteers.
  5. Oversee and coordinate all volunteer duties, schedules and trainings.
  6. Manage Helpline software programs: including Five 9, NCCARE360, Medicaider, Outlook and Google suite.
  7. Keep training materials and task lists for all Helpline functions updated.
  8. Receive, record, and coordinate call agent outreach to GSNAP’s, patient referrals, and other active referrals to the Helpline.
  9. Assign or coordinate work to volunteers or employees within a work group, and play team lead on assigned projects and campaigns.
  10. Promote the MANNA Helpline and all MANNA Programs in the region, supporting development of new promotional materials, digital media campaigns, and other marketing strategies.
  11. Represent and present information about the program and our work at conferences and meetings at the community and regional level.
  12. Maintain relationships with the Departments of Social Services within the service area. Keep current contact information for DSS offices in all NC counties.
  13. Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for the program in response to grant applications, grant reports, and state contract reporting.
  14. Maintain complete client confidentiality.
  15. Assist other MANNA FoodBank activities as needed, including support to strategic planning for the associated program.
  16. Perform other duties within the Programs department as assigned.
  • Education/Experience: A range of education, training, certifications and experience will be considered for this position.
    • This range could include High School diploma or equivalent, combined with three to four years of work experience, and up to a four-year degree with one to two years of work experience.
    • Fields of experience can include, but are not limited to, program coordination, benefits outreach, food banking, public health, social work, or related field.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • 1-3 years volunteer coordination/management experience.
  • 1-3 years of customer service, call center experience, and/or program coordination is strongly preferred.
  • High level of skill and comfort with technology preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook required.
  • Must be able to work in a busy office environment, work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Attention to detail regarding data entry, analysis and reporting.
  • Outstanding customer relations skills, and eagerness to assist others.
  • Demonstrated cultural diversity and inclusion awareness and practice.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.

Working Conditions: Work will be performed in a typical office environment with occasional exposure to warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. The employee is occasionally required to work in outdoor conditions; and extreme temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical Requirements: The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The physical demands of this position are considered medium work. While performing job duties the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities require the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary for the Benefits and Support Services Coordinator role is $17/hour depending on experience.
