Fairview, North Carolina is a town of 6.2 square miles that is just 11 miles southeast of Asheville and 16 miles northwest of Lake Lure. It is located in the southeastern part of Buncombe County. In the town, there is a light at the busy intersection of Highway 218 and Highway 601. This signals the heartbeat of Fairview. It got its name from a woman named Louretta Vanda Helms Price. She told the townspeople that the area around that intersection provided a “fair view.” They declared, that the name of the town would aptly be named, Fairview.
The Community of Fairview centered around the Christian faith. There were, and still are, a number of churches in the Fairview area. Cotton farms dotted the area during the first part of the twentieth century. Country stores were also very prevalent.
The population of Fairview is 3,602 people. The median age here is 43.4 years of age. The population is split into 54.12% females and 45.88% males. 91.5% received at least a high school diploma. The racial make-up of the town is: 93.2% Caucasian, 2.7% Hispanic, 1.2% African American, .4% Asian, .3% American Indian, 2.1% Mixed Races, and .1% other.
Fairview has a median household income of $57,279. Unemployment is right at the U.S. average which is 4%. The top five employment industries are: 23% Construction and Extraction, 13% Retail Sales, 11% Maintenance, Installation and Repair, 10% Administrative Services, and 7% Arts, Design, Entertainment and Media.
